Tori-Q: The Go-To Spot for Cheap, Tasty Eats
If you’ve ever been starving after school and just needed something good and fast, then you’ll get why I love Tori-Q. It’s a super underrated Japanese yakitori place tucked away in the basement of ION Orchard—and it’s seriously one of my favorite spots to eat in Singapore.
It’s one of those places you wouldn’t think twice about at first glance. It’s pretty simple, no crazy lights or huge signs screaming for attention, but once you’ve tried it, you’ll get why so many people swear by it. I first found it with my friends after a long day of school. We were starving, walking around the mall looking for something quick and not too expensive, and we ended up stumbling across Tori-Q. We gave it a try, and it’s been our go-to ever since.
I always get the rice box with chicken satay and the jumbo sausage. It’s such a good combo—flavorful, juicy, and grilled just right. The sauce they use is my favorite part, its like a sweeter teriyaki sauce that once you try you'll have to go back for seconds. The rice is warm and fluffy, and everything just works together perfectly. You can mix and match what you want in the box, so you can customize it depending on your mood. It’s also super affordable, each piece of meat ranging from 1-3 dollars. Especially for it being a spot in Orchard where a lot of meals can be overpriced.
Another reason I love Tori-Q is the vibe. It’s not a full sit-down restaurant, but they’ve got solid seating and it’s never too hectic. It’s the perfect place for a quick bite after school or before heading home. If you’re in a rush or just want something comforting and simple, it’s exactly what you need. One piece of advice I would give is, Tori-Q is kind of hidden away, especially in malls like ION. It’s in the basement surrounded by all these flashy, bright restaurants, so if you’re not actually looking for it, you might miss it completely. That’s probably my one business critique—if they made the store a little more eye-catching or promoted it more, I think way more people would give it a shot. It really deserves more attention than it gets.
Overall, if you’re living in Singapore or even just visiting and you happen
to pass by a Tori-Q—stop and try it. It’s one of my favorite hidden gem food spots. Delicious, affordable, and always hits the spot.
