Canchita: A Colorful Taste of Peru in Dempsey Hill

If you’re craving something flavorful but also want a chill place to hang out with friends or unwind after a long week, Canchita in Dempsey Hill is a spot worth checking out. Tucked into the greenery just a short drive from Orchard, this Peruvian restaurant is a little off the usual path—but that’s part of the charm. It feels like a mini getaway without leaving the city.

The vibe is fun and colorful, with bright walls, open spaces, and tropical touches that make the whole place feel warm and welcoming. It’s lively without being too loud, and you can tell a lot of thought went into the details—from the menu design to the little touches on each table.



The food? Honestly, delicious. While they’ve got everything from ceviche to slow-cooked beef and seafood rice, my go-to is super simple: the chicken tacos. They come in soft, warm tortillas and are packed with tender, flavorful chicken, fresh salsa, and just the right amount of creamy sauce. Nothing fancy—just really, really good. It’s the kind of dish that hits the spot every time.

Prices are what you’d expect for a Dempsey Hill spot. The tacos are around $20, and other dishes range depending on what you order. It’s not cheap, but the quality and atmosphere make it worth it for a nice meal out. Portions are generous too, so you’re not leaving hungry.

One thing to note: it can get pretty busy on weekends, so it’s a good idea to book ahead. Also, while the restaurant is beautiful, the outdoor seating can be a bit warm during the day—so go for the indoor tables if you're sensitive
to heat.

A friend recommended Canchita to me for their ceviche, but I ended up falling in love with the tacos. It’s now one of those places I keep coming back to when I want something tasty in a fun, relaxed setting.
